Video Start Guide (series of 6 pre-recorded videos):.I strongly encourage you to take some of the free YNAB classes, or at least watch the videos to familiarize yourself with some of the finer points of YNAB. A good way to reach this point is to create a buffer category, and put money into it with the goal of having one month's worth of income. 3 Follow the same prioritization sequence you used in the current month, budgeting until Ready to Assign is 0.00. 2 Youll see all your dollars still in Ready to Assign. Of course, when you first start out, you likely will not enough on cash on hand (you still need money this month for this month's expenses). Those dollars that still need jobs You can assign them in the next month: 1 In the budget header, click forward to the next month. YNAB is much more than a budgeting tool, it is really an entire system. You are only budgeting and spending with known amounts, not projected amounts. You'll never be forced to wait three days to pay a bill. This really is the key step toward financial freedom, because you will never have to worry about when a check clears. This fulfills the 4th Rule of YNAB: Live on Last Month's Income. Then when you do the budget at the beginning of the month, you're only budgeting with money you absolutely have in the bank. The goal is to reach a point where each check gets categorized as "Income for Next Month". It looks like you've got a good start on the budget, and I'd like to throw in some tips and insights that have helped me with YNAB.
